Recently, some Comcast users have been getting voice messages or emails claiming they qualify for a 50% discount.
The voice message typically says:
“Hello! This is Comcast Xfinity calling to let you know your current account is eligible for a 50% discount. To claim it, please call us at (833) 434-2577 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. Thanks, and have a great day!”
Beware—this is a scam!
Comcast Xfinity isn’t offering a genuine 50% discount, and they never give such large discounts.
This scam isn’t new; it happened about 8-10 months ago, and now scammers are targeting new customers with the same voicemail again.
Here are some tips to help you spot and avoid these scams:
- Be careful with unexpected calls or messages offering big discounts or freebies. Legit companies usually don’t make unsolicited calls for promotions.
- If someone asks for payment in gift cards over the phone, hang up. Contact your service provider in person or using a familiar phone number to verify.
- If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers often target customers of big companies like Comcast to trick them.
