If your LG TV repeatedly restarts, it indicates that the television is experiencing a software malfunction or the main power board may be affected by an accumulation of significant dust or ants.
Other factors, such as,
- Hardware issues (e.g., a faulty capacitor)
- External devices (e.g., a faulty HDMI cable or game controller) can also be responsible.
In this article, I will explain what you have to do to get the TV working again.
Let’s dive in…
I understood! Now how to fix this issue?
- Perform an HDMI reset.
- Clean the power board.
- Delete unnecessary apps.
Here are the detailed guidelines:
Step 1: Clean the Power Board
One of our readers (Jessan) shared this solution via email.
He wrote:
“F**king dust for me…cleaned it. Used some ant chalk powder surrounding TV, inside aluminum plate that motherboard was mounted on. Gave it a thorough cleaning, including the vents and internal components. BAM, it worked.. no more random restarts.“
So, do as Jessan did.
If the issue you are experiencing is due to the dust buildup on the internal circuit board, giving it a good cleaning will most probably fix the issue.
Here’s what to do:
- Take a screwdriver and then open the back panel of the TV.
- Check if there is any dust inside the power supply board.
- You might notice some ants there.
- Clean up these ants and dust properly.
Once done, reattach the back panel and power the TV again.
Now check whether the problem has been fixed.
Step 2: Free up space
Keeping the TV’s memory as free as possible is very important.
If your LG TV displays the message ‘Out Of Memory‘ before automatically restarting, you know what the problem is.
In this case, you have two options:
Either delete unnecessary apps and files or factory reset the TV to the factory settings.
Here’s how to delete apps:
- Press the Home button on your LG remote.
- Use your remote to navigate to the right of the row of apps until you see a pencil icon.
- Select it to enter “Edit Mode.”
- Using the left arrow on the remote, navigate to the app you want to uninstall and select it by pressing the “OK” button.
- Using the up arrow, navigate to the “X” that appears on top of the app, and then press “OK” to select it.
- A pop-up will appear, asking you if you want to remove the app.
- Select “Yes”.
Once you are done, select ‘Done’ to exit “Edit Mode”.
That’s it…
Now manually reboot the TV and see whether the TV restarts itself again.
Step 3: Remote is malfunctioning
This is another culprit when an LG TV keeps rebooting!
If the remote is malfunctioning or a button is stuck, it can send out faulty signals that trigger the TV to restart automatically.
In the same video, aside from Jessan, Mikelli shared her findings.
She says,
Batteries out of the remote worked for me, it wasn’t the TV remote but the Amazon fire tv remote, once I removed them it stopped restarting. Issue fixed!
If you are using any streaming remote like Mikelli, do the same as she did! (Try this with the TV’s remote as well.)
First, check if any button is stuck. If none of the buttons are stuck, remove the batteries from the remote and press and hold the power button on the remote for approximately 20 seconds.
After this, insert the batteries back into the remote and switch on the TV.
Step 4: Factory reset the TV
That’s the main part of this troubleshooting guide!
If none of the above methods worked for you and your LG TV is still constantly rebooting, restoring the firmware might help!
Basically, a factory reset will restore your TV’s firmware to the default state and fix any type of corrupted file, which will probably fix the issue.
However, if you don’t know how to reset the TV properly, refer to this article from.
Once you reset the TV, check whether the problem has been fixed!
Note: If you have a game console or HDMI cable connected to your TV, be sure to disconnect them!
