Step 1: Soft reset your TV
The first and the most effective solution to fix this issue is to unplug your TV from the wall outlet and then replug it again after 60 seconds. Ridiculous! Right? But it could be the only way to fix this issue in just one minute.
So, after unplugging the TV from the power outlet, wait at least 60 seconds. Before plugging it back in, be patient and ensure it’s been at least a minute. Find and press the power button on your Westinghouse TV for 30 seconds while it is unplugged. Ensure you’re pushing the power button on your TV rather than the remote! This will help to drain any remaining power from the TV and allow it to soft reset.
This isn’t the same as simply turning the Westinghouse TV on and off! After 60 seconds, plug the TV back in, and your problem should be fixed. If your Westinghouse TV remote is still not working, try the below solutions.
Step 2: Reprogram a Westinghouse TV remote
If the first step doesn’t fix the problem, you should reprogram the remote with the TV again. Sometimes the remote control can disconnect from the TV due to a fault or an unusual movement. In this case, repairing your remote with the TV may get it back into working order.
Typically, the remote and the TV will pair automatically when powered on or after a reboot, but you may need to pair or re-sync them at times manually. To repair your Westinghouse remote with the TV, follow the below steps:
- First, turn on the TV and take a step back from it, about one meter.
- Point the remote at your Westinghouse TV.
- On your remote, press the “OK” button once.
- Keep pressing the key until a message on the screen confirms that the remote control has been identified.
Now, test the remote using some menu commands once they’ve been paired. If this still doesn’t work, move on to the next step.
Step 3: Clean the IR Sensor or remove the blockage
Another major problem is a blockage between your remote and the TV, such as walls, furniture, or cloth. The remote control uses an infrared signal to transmit data; if the TV doesn’t receive this signal, it will not work!
So the third step in fixing this issue is ensuring that your TV gets the proper signal without interruption. Try moving your TV to a different place or pointing the remote correctly at the TV’s sensor.
Another possibility is that there is dust on the IR sensor. Due to this, the Westinghouse remote cannot transmit signals well. Thoroughly clean the sensor with a soft cloth and check if the problem is fixed.
Step 4: Ensure that the Remote’s IR sensor is working
If cleaning the IR Sensor and removing the blockage doesn’t fix the issue, there could be a problem with the Remote’s IR sensor. As mentioned, this sensor helps to transmit and receive data between the TV and the Remote.
If this light gets damaged or malfunctioning, it could be the exact cause of this problem. Remember that infrared signals are invisible. So you won’t be able to see it with your naked eye. Using your smartphone camera is one of the best ways to check whether your IR sensor is working.
So to check it, follow the below steps:
- Look at your Westinghouse remote through the screen of your phone’s camera app.
- Press any button or a set of buttons on the Remote.
- A red light will blink through the camera screen with each button pressed on a functional remote.
If no red light flashes, the remote may be damaged, or the batteries may die. In this case, you need to replace your Westinghouse TV remote with a new one, or you should try changing your Remote’s battery.
Step 5: Reset your Remote’s battery
Sometimes dust or gunk can accumulate in the battery contacts and prevent the battery from connecting with the remote properly. If this is the case, your Remote will not work until you clean the battery contacts. For this, remove the batteries from your Remote.
Clean the charging ports with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol to remove dust or gunk accumulation. After then, hold down the power button on the remote for 30 seconds. Now put the batteries back into your remote and see if it works. If it still doesn’t work, remove the batteries from your remote and press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.
This will reset the remote by draining any residual power it may have. Reinstall the batteries in the remote and check if it works.
If resetting the battery and cleaning the contacts doesn’t fix the problem, replace the battery. You can buy a new set of batteries at Amazon or from any local vendor.
Step 6: Update your Westinghouse TV Software
Still reading? Very bad! The last thing you can do is update your TV’s firmware. Firmware updates usually improve TV performance and add new features. It can also fix bugs and improve the overall stability of your TV.
Although most updates are performed automatically, sometimes, you may need to update the software manually. If you’re behind on upgrades, your remote and TV may behave strangely, be slower than usual, or fail to connect to some apps.
So to update it, follow the below steps:
- First, select the “Settings” option from the main menu screen,
- Then choose the “Network and Software Update” options.
- If you notice an available update, choose to install it immediately.
Once the update has been installed, your TV will restart automatically. Now try a few commands to see if your issues have been resolved.
