You might have noticed that when you wash your clothes in a washing machine, they come out full of lint or get worn out and fade easily, right?
Well, this happens due to two main reasons:
- A dirty filter
- And static electricity.
This article is not about how to clean the filter, but rather how to get rid of the problem that still occurs even when the filter is clean.
Here we go, Let’s dive in…
Note: I tried this trick at home and it worked for me, but I can’t guarantee that it will work for everyone. However, it has worked in 99% of cases, so definitely give it a try!
The Problem of Lint Build-up
When you put clothes in a washing machine, they rub against each other due to the machine’s agitating motion. This rubbing generates static electricity, which causes the lint to accumulate on the clothes.
That’s why many times when you take your clothes out of the machine, they’re stuck to each other.
However, other factors such as the quality of the detergent, the type of fabric softener used, and the washing machine’s filter can also cause this.
I will just talk about how you can bypass this static electricity to prevent lint buildup.
The Hack
For this hack, you will need some aluminum foil. Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1) Prepare the washing machine
Gather the clothes that you want to wash and put them in the washing machine. You can use any type of clothing, including whites, colors, or darks.
Add the laundry detergent and fabric softener to the washing machine, just like you normally would. You can use any brand or type of laundry detergent and fabric softener that you prefer.
Step 2) Crumple aluminum foil into small balls
Take a sheet of aluminum foil and crumple it into small balls.
For a small number of clothes, you won’t need to use much. I’ll say just two of these. But if you’re going to wash a larger amount of clothes, you can put three or four of those balls.
Make sure to distribute them evenly throughout the load and are small enough to fit comfortably in the washing machine along with the clothes.
Step 4) Start the Washing Machine
Now close the lid of the washing machine and start the wash cycle as you normally would.
Step 5) Examine the result
After the washing cycle is complete, remove the clothes from the washing machine and examine them.
BOOM! Your clothes are free of lint.
The specialty of using aluminum foil
As I mentioned earlier, during the washing process, static electricity occurs because of the friction between clothes which causes lint build-up.
The aluminum foil acts as a conductor which absorbs the static electricity generated during the washing process.
When you put the aluminum foil balls in the washing machine with the clothes, they reduce the amount of static electricity generated which prevents the buildup of lint on clothes.
Don’t throw away the aluminum foil balls. You can reuse them over and over again. Simply keep them in a safe place until the next time you need them.
F.A.Q.s
Q: Will the aluminum foil balls leave any residue on my clothes?
No, the aluminum foil balls will not leave any residue on your clothes.
They simply help to absorb static electricity during the washing process and you can reuse them multiple times without any negative impact on your clothes.
Q: Can I use other materials instead of aluminum foil to reduce static electricity?
Yes, you can use other materials such as dryer sheets or tennis balls to reduce static electricity in the washing machine.
However, aluminum foil is a cheaper and more eco-friendly option.
Q: Is it safe to put aluminum foil in the washing machine?
Yes, it is safe to put aluminum foil in the washing machine. Aluminum foil is a non-toxic and safe material that can help reduce static electricity in the machine.
