Viaplay’s Nordic Noir expands globally with new Roku partnership

Viaplay Group, the leading Nordic streaming service provider, has announced a partnership with Roku, the popular streaming platform, to offer its content to viewers in the US, Canada, and the UK.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Viaplay’s Nordic Noir premium drama from the Nordic region, including crime thrillers, young adult shows, historical dramas, documentaries, and live sports, will be available on Roku devices.

With this partnership, Viaplay subscribers in North America will receive over 1,500 hours of content, including the popular young adult drama “Threesome,” the biopic “The Dreamer – Becoming Karen Blixen,” and the US-Swedish crime series “Cell 8.”

Viewers in the UK, on the other hand, will enjoy live sports such as the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers, LaLiga, Scottish Cup, United Rugby Championship, and NHL ice hockey, alongside drama and film offerings such as the crime drama “Face to Face,” Danish series “White Sands” and “Seaside Hotel,” and the legendary show “The Bridge.”

From today, viewers in all three countries can subscribe directly to Viaplay’s full local offerings via Roku. The Viaplay app is already available in 13 countries and is supported by various devices and platforms, including major smart TV brands, iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Chromecast, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, PC, and Mac.

Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, CEO of Viaplay Group, said,

“We’re excited to bring Viaplay’s premium Nordic content to Roku’s millions of users in the US, Canada, and the UK. This partnership allows us to offer our subscribers even more ways to enjoy the best entertainment from the Nordics, including award-winning drama, live sports, and our exclusive Viaplay Originals.”

Scott Rosenberg, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Platform Business at Roku, commented,

“Viaplay has built an impressive streaming service, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the Roku platform. By adding Viaplay to our lineup, we’re giving our users even more options to enjoy the content they love.”

The Viaplay-Roku partnership reflects the growing demand for international content among streaming viewers worldwide.

With the addition of Viaplay’s content, Roku users will have access to a broader range of entertainment options, including the best of Nordic Noir.
